Toradora! (とらドラ!) [Review]

Okay, so... The other day, I came across an anime called Toradora! And it happened to be one that I'd heard about but never watched. And so, I decided that after several years of knowing the anime existed and listening to its soundtrack, I would finally watch the anime itself. (And I'm now reading the manga.) It took me roughly 72 hours to complete the entire anime (taking into consideration the fact that I was doing other things amongst those 72 hours, which is why it took me so long.)

Now, Toradora! is constructed of 25 full-length episodes, and one 6-minute OVA.
The plot behind it is as follows;

Extract from Wikipedia:
{'Toradora!'s story begins with the male protagonist Ryūji Takasu who is frustrated at trying to look his best as he enters his second year of high school. Despite his gentle personality, his eyes make him look like an intimidating delinquent, so he feels utterly hopeless about his chances of getting a girlfriend anytime soon, and does not have many close friends either. After being greeted by his hungover mother in the morning, Ryūji goes to school and is happy to find that he gets to be in the same class with his best friend Yūsaku Kitamura and a girl he has a crush on, Minori Kushieda. However, it is then that he unexpectedly knocks into "the school's most dangerous animal of the highest risk level"—Taiga Aisaka—who just happens to also be in his class, and is a good friend of Minori.'}

Clockwise: Ryūji Takasu, Yasuko Takasu, Inko-chan,  Ami Kawashima, Taiga Aisaka, Minori Kushieda, Yuri Koigakubo & Yūsaku Kitamura.

Characters:
I thought the characters in this particular series were all well thought out and unique. None of them could be seen as stolen from another anime. 'The Palmtop Tiger' Aisaka Taiga, made the series quirky and entertaining, whilst Kushieda Minori, makes you want to stab a cushion and scream "oh God, why?" with her annoying voice and over-enthusiastic personality. As for our protagonist, Takasu Ryūji... Being seen as a 'delinquent' and so hopelessly misunderstood makes you feel sorry for him, however, once the series progresses, you'll notice that it doesn't affect him too badly. The character designs were all lovely to look at and very easy on the eye, a selection of beautiful characters, each with amusing personalities to match. It seemed almost as though they were real, acting just as your average high school students would.

Plot:
I found the plot for this anime very moving and yet amusing at the same time. There were parts that made you want to laugh, others that made you burst into tears uncontrollably for a few minutes. With the characters being so believable, you can't help but allow yourself to be drawn into the plot and at the end of each episode, on the edge of your seat in suspense as to what will happen next. Fight scenes between conflicting characters make the anime more entertaining in places, and scenes of heartbreak will tug at your heartstrings and make you fall in love with the anime and its storyline.

Soundtrack:
I can't really find much to describe the soundtrack for Toradora! other than, Rie Kugimiya! Eeek! If you needed any other reason to watch this series, Rie Kugimiya produced the majority of the songs used in the soundtrack: "Orange (オレンジ Orenji)", "Pre-Parade (プレパレード Pureparēdo)" & "Holy Night (ホーリーナイト Hōrī Naito)". Whilst partnering with Eri Kitamura and Yui Horie. A fabulous trio to produce wonderful music for an amazing anime. The most beautiful piece of music would probably be "Lost my Pieces", when it's featured in the anime, they partner it with such a dramatic scene that I couldn't help but cry my little blue eyes out.

Seiyū:
Taiga Aisaka - voiced by Rie Kugimiya
Minori Kushieda - voiced by Yui Horie
Ami Kawashima - voiced by Eri Kitamura

Three of my favourite seiyū of all time, together in one anime, you say? Love. Love. Love. What more could I possibly say about it? These 3 females, have such unique, cute and quirky voices. They suited the characters they were voice-acting for perfectly, and helped to make it all more believable.

Summary:
I found every single episode entertaining, there weren't any parts of the anime during which I became bored or thought the plot was dragging on. The fact that they included quirky jokes and comical fight scenes made it more enjoyable, whilst also maintaining an aura of seriousness about it. The final few episodes definitely captured my heart and made the anime very memorable. It isn't one I'll be forgetting about in a hurry. With stunning animation and an interesting storyline, Toradora! is an anime I'm proud to have watched. I'm almost obsessed with it now. My favourite character would of course have to be Taiga, full of sarcastic remarks, she reminds me of myself in a way. And her hopelessness when it comes to love makes her adorable in a way that no other character can match. 'The Palmtop Tiger' is definitely not a character to be taken lightly. She's possibly the reason that this series is so enjoyable.

All in all, I would give Toradora! 5 stars! ~
